  • Quartet of Marlins Named To VaSID All-Academic Team

    ASHLAND, Va. – The 2017-18 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team was released and four Virginia Wesleyan University student athletes were recognized. Hanna Hull of the softball team, Zoe Traficante of women’s soccer, Emilee Pierson of volleyball and Jayla Harris of women’s basketball were all named to the All-Academic Team based on their performances in the classroom and in their respective sports.

    VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team has been named to Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Second Team for her performance over the 2017-18 season. This is her second time earning this honor with her receiving Second Team recognition last year as well.

The Marlins finish their season at exactly .500, posting a record of 14-14.

The 6th-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University women’s basketball team upset the #3 Lynchburg Hornets, 61-51, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarter final matchup Thursday night at the Salem Civic Center. With the victory, the Marlins are now 14-13 on the season, while the Hornets close out their year, 20-6.

Jayla Harris of the Virginia Wesleyan University women?s basketball team has been named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) First Team for her efforts over the 2017-18 season. This is the third time she has been selected to an All-Conference Team and the second time she has been named to the First Team (2016-17).

Batten Student Center. With the win the Marlins go to 13-13 on the year and will travel to the Salem Civic Center in Salem Va. to take on the #3 Hornets. This quarterfinal matchup will take place at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

With the win, the team breaks even on the year 12-12 and goes to 9-6 in conference play. Shenandoah moves to 11-13 overall (7-8 ODAC).

The loss brings halts the marlins win streak at five, bringing their record to 9-11 overall and 6-5 in the conference. Randolph-Macon moves to 16-3 on the year (9-2 ODAC).

Hollins moves to 3-15 on the season and remain winless in the ODAC (0-10).

After starting the season 1-4 in ODAC play, the Marlins are now 5-4 in the conference and 8-10 overall. Eastern Mennonite drops to 10-7 on the year (5-4 ODAC).
