Rookie Moore debuts with four goals in VWC win at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College scored the first four
goals in a women's lacrosse game against Randolph College and rolled
to an 11-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory in Saturday's
season opener in Lynchburg.

Junior Nikki Salyers (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored the first
goal of the season for the Marlins, who proceeded to score four goals
in a span of four minutes to take control of the game. Rookie Summer
Moore (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) scored two of the goals and
senior Taylor Harding (Norfolk/Norfolk Collegiate) scored the other to
give Virginia Wesleyan the quick lead.

Randolph averted a first half shutout when Ashley Edwards
(Sumerduck/Liberty-Bealeton) scored on a free position shot with 16:56
remaining in the half.

The teams traded goals to start the second half before Virginia
Wesleyan pulled away for good.  The Marlins scored five unanswered
goals in a span of 15 minutes to produce a 10-2 advantage with 8:47
remaining to be played. Five different Marlins scored in the run,
including sophomore Carla Williams (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) and
Harding on free position shots.

Virginia Wesleyan out-shot Randolph 31-13, led by Moore with six shots
and a game-high four goals.  Harding finished with two goals and Chole
Weinmann (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos), Stacey Sank (Elmira,
N.Y./Iroquois Central and Amari Agee (Mason, Ohio/William Mason, tying
the third highest single-game total in VWC history.

Randolph had three different WildCats score a goal each.  Keeper
Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) recorded 10 saves.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Wednesday, Feb. 27,
hosting New York's Rochester Institute of Technology in a
non-conference game beginning at 4 p.m.
