Even second half not enough for Virginia Wesleyan in finale

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Wesleyan College's women's lacrosse team played Shenandoah University's Hornets on even terms in the second half of Saturday's game on Foster Field at the Trinder Center.  Both teams scored five goals.

It was the first half that made the difference however, as the Hornets outscored the Marlins 10-1 en route to posting a 15-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory in the season finale for Virginia Wesleyan.  VWC closed the season with a 4-12 record overall and a 3-7 mark in the league, while Shenandoah improved to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in the ODAC.

Senior Taylor Harding (Norfolk/Norfolk Collegiate) and sophomore Brooke Cabeceiras (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) led the Marlins with two goals each.  Senior Nikki Salyers (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and sophomoreCandace Carey (Charlottesville/Albemarle) added a goal each.

Rookie goalie Madison Carroll (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) finished with 11 saves for the Marlins.  Ashley Cross (Agawam, Mass./Agaway) recorded 12 saves for SU.

Amy Rollins (Ashburn/Stone Bridge) led SU scoring with four goals.  Samantha Donaghy (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) and Corrinne Kosmowski (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) added three goals each.
