Marlins Win Dual Meet with Randolph
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University women's swimming team captured a dual meet victory over Randolph College on Saturday. The Marlins won handedly 105-47.
Taylor Morich started out for the Marlin competitors with a time of 14:46.54 in the 1,000 yard freestyle. She was followed by Hayley Heath, who captured a victory in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:32.23. Morgan Lucas and Francesca Lanuza were right behind Heath as the trio of Marlins swept the top three spots in the event.
Nicole Rinehart claimed victory in the 50 yard freestyle, stopping the clock with a 31.00 race, almost three seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Randolph.
Amanda Waller and Ashley Whipple took the top two slots in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming times of 1:06.54 and 1:14.02 respectively. Waller also claimed the victory in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:27.06.
Heath and Morich also won multiple events as Heath took the 100 yard backstroke crown (1:19.44) as Morich won the 500 yard freestyle (7:20.97).
The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Heath, Rinehart, Lanuza, and Diana Jones posted a time of 2:11.24 to win the event and finish off the Marlin victory.
Virginia Wesleyan will host Roanoke College for a dual meet on November 4 at 1 p.m.
