Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's tennis team completed the first day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.

The team finished the day with three wins in eight overall matches. Sophomore Katie Staman went 2-0 in singles, winning both of her matches 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1.

Also capturing a win at the regional was sophomore Jacklyn Cheely. Freshman Courtney Gulihur fell to a Swathmore player in the first round of the championship draw 6-2, 6-0. Also falling in the first round was freshman Aubree Johnson. All four will continue play on Sunday in Fredericksburg.
