ASTON, Pa. – The Virginia Wesleyan University field hockey team shut out Neumann University, 2-0, Sunday afternoon on the road. With the win the Marlins move to .500 on the season (2-2) while the Knights slide to 3-4.
It did not take long for the Marlins offense to get going as Elizabeth Roberto found the back of the cage just 4:33 into the contest. Before the periods end, Virginia Wesleyan would double up their lead as Janine De Perio notched her second goal of the season. That would be all that was needed as some solid defensive play prevented any comeback from happening.
The Marlins dominated the game throughout the entire 70 minutes. They outshot their opponents 20-2 and took 13 penalty corners to the Knights' one.
Skye Swain earned the win in net, stopping the two shots she faced on the day.
Field hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday as the team remains on the road for a battle with Wesley College.
