Comeback Bid Fails as Men's Lacrosse Falls to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team fell 16-8 to Bridgewater Saturday afternoon on the road. With the loss, the Marlins go to 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference action. Bridgewater improves to 9-4 on the year (2-4 ODAC).

After Bridgewater tallied the game's first goal, Brady Morrison was able to knot things back up as he beat the Eagle netminder with a hard shot. Bridgewater stormed back though as they piled in four more goals before the periods end. Virginia Wesleyan narrowed the gap to three goals at the start of the second as Nathan Sheirburn won the face off and scored just 15 seconds into the stanza, but once again the Eagles answered with five more before the halftime whistle.

Down 10-2 coming out of the intermission, the Marlins dominated the third period. The team dumped in five goals while holding the Eagles to just one but the momentum was lost in the fourth quarter as the Eagles ran away with the victory.

Sheirburn, Cole Maguire and Greg Gaetano would all finish the day with two goals while Morrison and Lane registered one.

Kyle Leeming played all 60 minutes i goal, turning aside 21 Eagle shots which is just two shy of his career record.

Men's lacrosse will return to action again at 4 p.m. on Saturday as the squad heads to Lynchburg for another ODAC match up.
