EMORY, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team dropped Emory & Henry, 5-0, Saturday afternoon on the road. With the victory, the Marlins improve to 3-5 on the season and go to 1-0 in conference play. The Wasps fall to 5-3-2 on the season (0-1).
The Marlins dominated from the opening kick as they outshot the Wasps 20-9. It took only a little over seven minutes for the visiting team to get on the board as Shaun Brooks found Scott Signorelli for his fourth of the season. Virginia Wesleyan then made it 2-0 late in the stanza as Devin Wallace finished a Deryck Burczyk pass.
After the halftime intermission, the Marlins continued to pour in the offense as Jaron Berry netted his third of the season just under four minutes in. Two more goals would come just over a minute apart later in the half. Allen Wilcox cashed in the Marlins first one at the 74:21 mark and Gabe Peredo made it 5-0 as he scored just 1:34 later.
Griffin Potter stopped all three shots thrown at him, picking up his second shut out of the season.
Men's soccer will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as the team takes on Greensboro College in a road contest.
