Men's Soccer Unable to Get By Tigers

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Hampden-Sydney Wednesday evening at the Trinder Center. With the loss, the Marlins fall to 4-7-0 on the season and pick up their first defeat in conference action (2-1-0). Hamdpen-Sydney improves to 8-5-0 on the year (3-0-0 ODAC).

The Tigers were the first to get on the board as they beamed a free kick off the cross bar and finished on the carom. They would hold that lead going into halftime, but the Marlins were able to knot things at 1-1 minutes after the intermission. Virginia Wesleyan earned a corner kick four minutes into the second half and Michael Nocera lined up to take it. He sent a ball to the near post where Scott Signorelli was able to get his head on it a pick up his team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Hampden-Sydney was able to get one back midway through the period though and that would make the difference.

Men's soccer will return to action again at 4 p.m. on Saturday as the team heads to Ferrum for an ODAC tilt.
