FERRUM, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's soccer team fell, 3-2, to Ferrum in double overtime Saturday evening on the road. With the results, the Marlins move to 4-8-0 on the season and 2-2 in conference action. Ferrum moves to 9-4 on the year (2-2 ODAC).
The Marlins were the first to strike as Scott Signorelli moved his goal-scoring streak to three-straight games just over five minutes into the contest. That 1-0 lead would hold into the halftime intermission.
Ferrum knotted things back at 1-1 early in the second, scoring in the 61st minute but the standstill only lasted a few minutes as Kevin Prophet cashed one in eight minutes later to retake the lead. The Panthers struck back in the 79th minute to push it to overtime.
In the first overtime the Marlins had a few good opportunities, including a ball from Ikechukwu Etoneyaku that was tipped over the crossbar late in the stanza. Ferrum was able to collect the win though as they tucked home a goal seven minutes into the second OT period.
Men's soccer returns to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday as the team travels to play Shenandoah on the road.
