Men’s Tennis Falls to Atlantic-10 Power Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. = The Virginia Wesleyan University Men's Tennis team ventured westward on I-64 to take on an Atlantic-10 power in the University of Richmond. The Marlins fell to the Spiders 7-0. 

The action began with doubles where Nick Gunther and Mitchell Perry fought valiantly at number 1 doubles in a 6-4 loss to Richmond's Josh Keitelman and Matt Fernandez. At number 2 doubles, Timothy Tep and Anthony Wilson fell 6-1 while Michael Portera and Paul Gladstone lost 6-0 at number 3 doubles.

In singles play, Nick Gunther was bested by Richmond's John Walsh at number 3 singles while Andreas Combos fell 6-0, 6-0 to Richmond's George Lovitt. Timothy Tep fell 6-1, 6-3 at number 2 singles while Mitchell Perry fell 6-1, 6-1 at number 6 singles. At number 5 singles, Anthony Wilson dropped his match 6-2, 6-1. Paul Gladstone was bested at number 1 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 loss.

Coach Marty Perry's squad will be back in action on Saturday to take on an ODAC foe in the Roanoke Maroons for team captain Paul Gladstone's Senior Day. First serve is scheduled for 10 AM.
