Hall's No-Hitter Highlights Sweep of Guilford

GUILFORD, N.C. - The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan University softball team swept Guilford in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon on the road. The team took game one by a score of 10-2 before shutting them out, 9-0, in the day's second contest. With the victorys, the Marlins improve to 23-2 on the season and go to 9-1 in conference action. Guilford slides to 17-6 on the year (3-5 ODAC).

GAME 1: VWU - 10  GC - 2

Jessica Lindsay helped get this game going as she led off with a solo shot (her fourth of the weekend) in the top of the second. One frame later, the visiting squad would tack on three more runs. With Arianna Rolle on third, Julia Sinnett grounded out to allow the freshman to make it home. A little bit later, with the bases loaded, Lindsay picked up her second RBI of the day with a single to left field. The third run came on a bases-loaded groundout by Danielle Stewart.

After a scoreless fourth, the Marlins were able to tack on three more in the top of the fifth. A Katelyn Biando double piled in a pair of runs while a Kaylah Duplain single eventually scored Biando. Biando and Lindsay would pick up another RBI each in the next inning and a Jessica Goldyn double in the seventh would drive in the final run of the day.

Hanna Hull put in work from the circle, striking out 11 en route to her 15th win of the season.

GAME 2: VWU - 9  GC - 0 (5 Inn.)

While the scoring still came, it was all about the defense this game as Carla Hall through her second-career no-hitter. The sophomore righty kept all 17 batters she faced from getting a hit, recording just one strikeout.

With the defense in full effect, the Marlin offense was also clicking. In the opening frame, VWU would score a run on five-straight at-bats to give them the early lead. Biando, Lindsay, Duplain, Maria Weddle and Aiyanna Freeney would each pick up an RBI.

Sinnett was responsible for two more runs as she homered in the second, scoring both herself and Madison Glaubke. Up 7-0, the Marlins put two more up on the scoreboard in the fifth as Biando and Lindsay both singled for yet another RBI.

Softball returns to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday as the team heads to North Carolina Wesleyan College for a doubleheader with the Battling Bishops.
