VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University soccer team dominated in its season-opener, blanking Luther College by a score of 4-0 Friday night at the Trinder Center. With the win, the Marlins are now 1-0 while the Norse slides to 0-1.
It was an offensive explosion right out of the gates for the home side as Alex Davidson slid one by the Luther keeper on three minutes into the competition. Just 15 minutes later, Reina Araujo doubled up the Marlins lead as she cashed in her first of the year.
Those two would go right back at it in the second half as both would tally another score just three minutes apart. Aruajo's two goals on the night double her freshman career-total.
Though not seeing much action, Tristen Roberts handled her duties in net as she turned aside both of the Norse attempts.
Women's soccer returns to action again at 6 p.m. on Saturday as the squad hosts Westfield State to close out their season-opening Tournament at the Trinder Center.
