HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team picked up its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the year as the team dropped Eastern Mennonite, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon on the road. With the victory, the Marlins improve to 5-2-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Royals slide to 7-2-0 on the year (1-1-0 ODAC).
The Marlin offense dominated the contest as they outshot the Royals 28-6. After a scoreless first half, Virginia Wesleyan used a 66th minute goal to break the standstill. Teah Lorenzi helped orchestrate the play as she streaked down the left side towards the endline. She cut it back towards the box, shaking her defender before sending a low cross into the 6-yard box. Waiting there was Mia Meinhardt who cleanly instepped it past the opposing keeper to put the Marlins up 1-0.
Amruta Karkare earned the win in goal as she stopped all three of the Royal shots on goal.
Women's soccer returns to action again at 11 a.m. on Saturday as the team hosts Hollins for homecoming.
