Women's Competes in Day Two of Marlin Invite

Virginia Beach, VA - Action continued at the Women's Tennis Marlin Invite on Saturday at the Everett Tennis Center.  The Marlins started off the day by capturing four of seven singles matches against Southern Virginia University.  At the #1 singles flight, VWU freshman Alexandra Brewster defeated SVU's Morgan Blount 6-1, 6-3.  At the #2 singles flight, Marlin sophomore Christine Zalameda topped SVU's Elizabeth Fuchs 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.  Also picking up wins for the Marlins was junior Taitum O'Brien and senior Aubree Johnson at #5 and #7 flights respectively.

In the afternoon's final match, the Marlins took on Bridgewater College in singles.  VWU captured five of seven singles matches against the Eagles.  At the #1 flight, Christine Zalameda out lasted BC's Whitney Kiser 8-4.  At #2, Alexa Brewster defeated Nicole Shifflett 8-2.  At #4, Lyric Hinton took down BC's Emily Daigneault 8-3.  Both O'Brien and Stegemann picked up wins at #6 and #7 singles respectively for the Marlins.

On the day the Marlins went 10-6 overall.  Action continues tomorrow morning at 9 am at the Everett Tennis Center when Virginia Wesleyan takes on Bridgewater in doubles flights followed by singles.
