Washington, D.C. - The Virginia Wesleyan University's volleyball team completed another clean sweep as it picked up a pair of wins on Saturday at the Gallaudet Invitational. The Marlins dropped both of their opponents in straight sets, beating both Shenandoah and Washington College 3-0. With the wins, the Marlins improve to 8-0 on the season.
Game 1: VWU- 3 SU-0 (25-15, 28-26, 25-16)
The Marlins defeated the hornets in three straight sets in their opening match. Offensively, Amber Matalus had a solid performance with 12 kills. While both Haley Sutton and Meghan Wood had 18 assists. Alyssa Taylor helped on the defensive side of the ball with 11 digs.
Game 2: VWU-3 WC-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-19)
The Marlins came out strong in the 2nd match of the day by using an attack percentage of .377 to bring home their 4th victory of the tournament. Meghan Wood started the first set off with a 6-serve run. Haley Sutton then followed with another 6-serve run and Amber Matalus finished the set off with a 5-serve run. Meghan Wood once again led the squad with 18 assists.
The Marlins return to action on Wednesday against Roanoke at 7 p.m. in the Jane P. Batten Student Center.
